Chapter 34 : Phoenix

When I visited the audience chamber that day, there was a big bird with striking red to orange feathers. 

Each time the bird flapped his wings, a burst of color sparked inside the room, filling my vision with its gentle and warm hue. 

I stood there, mesmerized by the beautiful color when the bird suddenly sang, his melodic voice was ethereal. 

As the bird continued to sing, a soft looking clothes started to entwined itself, wrapping the the bird’s body. 

As more and more layers of robe covered his body, the bird started to shift. 

Instead of a striking bird with a striking red to orange feathers, there stood a stunning young man. 

“Art thou Maou?” 

“Eh? Ah, yeah.” 

Those bewitching eyes stared daggers at me.

“You’re a phoenix. What’s your name?” I asked.

“Hmm.. My name huh.. ” The phoenix murmured as he closed his scarlet eyes. 

“Presenting my name to shabby looking maou like you are nothing but a waste of time. But! Rest assured, I shall grace your feeble existence with my name. Those cadaverous appearance though.. Let alone letting you serve me, I can hardly bear looking at you for more than one second. Alas, in this great time of peril, I don’t have much choice. It is inevitable but there was no other Maou but you so I can do nothing but give you the honor of calling me with my name.”

The phoenix kept on spitting hurtful words after words with those melodic voice of his, I couldn’t even say anything in return. 

“Euneel Ruth Felik.” He said after a long pause. 

“Ah, Euneel it is.” 

“Beware of the words that came out of your mouth, young Maou. Power dwells in every spoken word. Especially from the Maou. If you’re not careful you may bind a demon against their own will. I’ve granted you the honor of calling me by my name because you asked for it but you musn’t impulsively call my name nonchalantly like that. Well, I will let it slide since I know such haggard looking Maou of course wouldn’t know anything. You may kneel and offer your gratitude to me in return.”

“Velke.” I called out to Velke, who was standing on my right side.

“Do you want me to kill him?” Velke’s hand was already on his sword’s hilt, ready to strike at any time. 

“Don’t kill him!” 

Ah, that was dangerous. Velke looked so agitated at the phoenix’s words. 

“I-if you swear your loyalty to me, I will grant you a family.” 

“How presumptuous of you to think I’d swear my loyalty to you. However, I’d consider offering you my assistance in dire time as long as you-” 

“Do you accept it or not?” I asked curtly. 

“………… I accept.” 

I sighed toward the ceiling.

Crap. Another annoying fellow appeared..

To sum it up, Euneel was a pain in the ass. 

“Ah, Maou, you look as hideous as always. To think I’d have to meet you so soon again, ah how annoying. Can you please stop interfering me ? I have matters to attend to and your feeble existence is not helping. In the first place ――”

“Maou, so we meet again. I can’t imagine how immense your happiness must be, to be able to meet me inside this castle once again. Although if I may be frank, your sole existence is tainting this whole castle down. I just can’t comprehend how can such shabby looking boy like you be the Maou. There’s no way someone can find you attractive, in fact  ――”

Each and every time we met, that bastard would always throw me scornful look filled with venomous words.

And you know what? I didn’t even thinking of meeting him! 

I was thinking something along the line like, maybe I should go get some ice cream.. Or should I go visit my adorable puppy in the nursery room.. 

Never had I thought of wanting to meet him but if by some sort of bad luck I encountered him, he would have started complaining about me. 

I was forced to hear his super long speech about things I couldn’t care less about. 

With this, I’ve met him six times. 

Which means, I’ve listened to his long rant for 6 times as well. 

Also, every time he shifted back to bird form to leave the castle, he would leave a piece his tail feathers behind. 

I heard that phoenix’s tail feathers held tremendous power so I dutifully picked every feather he left behind even though I hated his guts.

Velke said he had some urgent duty to attend to so I had to sleep by myself tonight. 

Sleeping alone felt lonesome but it couldn’t be helped. 

Just when I was about to sleep, I heard a flapping sound coming from the window. 

Curious to know what it was, I opened the window to see a brightly colored bird in the dead of night. 

The phoenix flapped his magnificent wings, the red to orange gradient contrasted with the dark night sky. 

W-what is he doing at this hour?? 

Without any reservations, the phoenix went inside my room and changed his shape into a man. 

“Tonight marks the seventh time.”

A piece of the phoenix’s tail feather fell upon my eyes.

I..Since when did I accept his courtship in the first place..? 

“U-Umm.. The ‘words of affection’ you mentioned.. Were you referring to the long rant you threw at me when you came..?”

I didn’t even have the energy to argue with him anymore. 

“It is frustrating but maou is an existence that belongs to all demonkind. You cannot be mine alone. But, I will never have you as my bride without courting you properly first. Just like all the phoenix before me have done before, I will court my bride in the traditional way.” 

“Just tell me what you want already.” 

“Lay back into your cushion and reveal your sweet body to me.”

Those malicious long rant was part of his courting ceremony??

I thought he was trying to pick a fight with me !

Euneel shed those layers of long robe off and leaned his body to me.

Euneel looked hesitant before he leaned close and whispered,“…………… I want to copulate with you.”

They repeated it hundreds of times until our fire dispersed and that’s when we cease to exist.”

S-so cruel.. I couldn’t believe such method existed. 

To think Euneel had to lose his family through such cruel method.. 

“I’ve seen hundreds of my species being forced inside that small lamp.. I.. I’ve been alone all this time.” 

“Euneel..”

“I’ve given you the permission to call me by my name. You are the maou.. You… You won’t disappear, right? Your existence won’t cease to exist, right?” 

“Ah, yeah that’s right.”

“Will you be the north star that guide us in the cold, dark, night? You won’t leave us all in the dark, right?’

“I won’t. I promise you.”

Then, Euneel started to rubbed his face against my hair, just like a spoiled child.

T/N: Wazzup! I’m back from the scans world! Gosh, the scans world is filled with drama and pettiness. I’m glad to see the novel world is still as peaceful as ever. At least here, I don’t have to worry about being sniped or having to compete with other people. The people in scans world just don’t know what respect is all about! Smh!
