Chapter 41 : Information Gathering

During the roundtable meeting that day, there was one particular information brought up.

“So? Is it true? Randolph-dono.”

“Yes, Chaos-dono. I have no doubt since the human has been talking about it.”

“But you still don’t know the location of the next demon subjugation…”

“My apologies. I couldn’t get that information just yet.”

According to Randolph who was working at a human adventure guild, there was a plan for another demon subjugation orchestrated by the hero.

However we didn’t know what kind of demon they were planning on subjugating nor the location or the time of their attack. 

The rest of the demon groaned in frustration.

“The current information we have is still too vague.. Randolph, be sure to report back to us when you’ve acquired new information.”

“At your will.”

We want to save them if we can. 

Everyone had the same thought on their mind as we concluded our meeting for the day.

I didn’t want to let anyone die without trying to help them if I could anymore.

I needed to be stronger. 

Which was why, I decided to embark on a mission that one could say as reckless. 

Which….. I regretted it after.

“Mao-kun, does the orange juice taste good?”

“Yeah.”

Right. 

I was sitting on the hero’s lap.

My plan went well. Too well in fact.

Recently Velke often went out during the day so I took that as an opportunity to slip out of the castle. 

I still remembered how to use disguise magic so I changed my appearance into a human using magic myself. 

Then I used the Teleporation Room to go into the neighboring town.

I was nervous as hell but I braved myself and went into the adventurer guild.

I used my pseudonym, Mao and called out for the hero. 

I didn’t think just calling for the hero once was enough but surprisingly the hero appeared almost immediately using teleportation magic.

“Ma-mao-kun!”

“Kira-oniichan! Good afternoon!”

“Where did you go last time we were in the woods? You were already gone when I came back, I was so worried!”

“I’m sorry. My brother came to pick me up so we went back together.”

“Ah.. I see.. I was really worried since I also heard a vicious dragon appeared nearby.”

The hero hugged me tightly.

Umm, okay let’s check his inner thoughts first to see whether he suspects my disguise or not.

The hero led me to a table with a set of chairs. 

He sat down then pat on his knee repeatedly, prompting me to come sit on his lap.

“There’s a lot of bad people in the guild. That’s why the next time you want to meet me again, you should go to the inn instead.”

“Okay! I got it!”

“But I’m so happy Mao-tan came looking for me.”

(Hahh… Haahh… Mao-tan… Mao-tan.. I tried threatening the people working in the town hall to look for your whereabouts but they couldn’t even find your name in the listing. Maybe Mao-tan came from the neighboring village? If one boy were to disappear from such a small village.. I don’t think anyone would make a fuss…)

To think the hero would think about such a thing….

Before I reached my limit from hearing the perverted hero’s thought, I should quickly find a way to obtain the information regarding the monster subjugation from him.

Then from the corner of my eyes, I saw a man coming into the guild. 

Randolph!

When Randolph saw me, he quickly walked toward me but he suddenly stopped walking when he noticed the hero.

Well of course. 

The Maou was sitting on the hero’s lap. 

It’s no wonder for Randolph to freeze when he stumbled upon this rare sight.

Ugh… Move away.. You didn’t see anything.. Just move along.. 

I anxiously chanted deep inside my mind, hoping Randolph would pick the cue.

Randolph looked bewildered before he visibly gulped down on nothing and continued to walk toward us. 

“Yo! Killatur-dono!”

“Err… Are you perhaps Randolph-dono?”

Turns out Randolph was acquainted with the hero!

That meant Randolph would be able to dig more information without me meddling in. 

I deeply regretted my decision. 

Really, I shouldn’t have acted brashly.

“He’s Mao-kun. I’ve met this boy a couple times already.”

Randolph then smoothly picked me up from the hero’s lap and put me down on his own lap.

His movement was so natural, there was no awkwardness at all.

Randolph successfully saved me from the hero’s lap!

The hero smiled ever tenderly whilst thinking of mincing Randolph to pieces.

“Oh, Mao-boy, the eclair in this place is delicious, you know. Do you want to try some?”

Randolph then ordered an eclair for me.

The eclair was bigger than my expectations.

It was long and thin with chocolate coating the top with sweet, rich goodness. 

From the outside you could already see the guild wasn’t stingy with the cream. 

The cream looked so thick and creamy!

I stuffed the eclair into my mouth happily. 

In an instant my senses were filled with the taste of the dark, rich chocolate mixed with the soft milky cream. 

“Delish! So delishhh!!”

“Haha! I’m glad you like it, boy!”

I jumped down from Randolph’s lap with a plop. 

“Should I take you to your brother?”

Randolph asked, worried about me. He seemed to want to add “To the Maou’s Castle” silently.

“Nope! It’s alright! I’ll see you later, Kira-onichan, Randolph-oniichan!”

“See you.”

(Ahhhhhhhh… Mao-tan is leaving… Thus the end of the spring of my life… I need more ‘Mao-tan energy’… Ah, I should be satisfied with Mao-tan’s lingering scent for now.. Hahhh… Haaahhh…)

“See you!” 

Randolph waved goodbye at me, his refreshing older brother vibe was on full course.

I left the adventurer guild, walked toward a deserted alley and returned to the castle. 

“Oh my, Maou-sama, where did you go?”

“Here and there.”

I changed from the common outfit the children in the city used to wear into my maou outfit and flipped the mantle on my back with a thud. 

“We need to leave quickly as soon as Velke returns.”

“Where are you going to go?”

“I’m going to save the demon… Southwest of Gunnal Lake.”
